i recently bought a sonyDVD-91 E handycam to travel round the world with. I record direct to 8cm discs and then use nero to add the video file from the disc to my hard drive which converts to mpeg format. I was the editing and burning with no problems until a recent update of nero. I am now picking up a static noise once the video file from the hard drive has been added to the nero project which then transfers to the disc when burnt. I have contacted nero technical and have used driverclean tools and system clean tools but still has not rectified problem. They have also suggested PVAstrumento which again has not helped. I am lost, the files playback fine on mediaplayer and when i burn them using powerproducer 2 the disc does not have this static noise on it, the problem seems to be with nero please help i have hours of footage from all over the world that needs editing.

@slummer
Have you considered removing the update and going back to the previous version of the software, or is the updated version a 'must have'?

Just a query do you have the 5.1 multichannel encoder plugin?

You might see my post above using
sony dvd cam 803e files
(not converted at all, all with original 5.1 sound)
I have successfully
butt edited (but no text titles aaargh) those sony 803e video clips together and run a stereo file underneath, all in Nerovision and burned to dvd without pops

Playing the disk on a dvd player
the 5.1 sound originating from the Sony cam was retained GREAT
and the overlaid stereo track ran fine coming out the left and right front speakers but the stereo also came out the rears as some sort of diff signal which sounded quite acceptable in practice. FINE
There was no excess white noise or pops etc. GREAT

When I have had pops see (other post) it sounds similar to wordclock errors you get in studios these happen when digitally linked audio gear gets the occasionally sample out of it's sample window.
So I have been assuming that when it occurs in Nero it's because Nero programme is not resolving the audio file correctly perhaps recognises it as being one type of encoding and resolves it when actually it's another slightly different encoding that Nero does manages to decode...but wrongly. I think this might possibly also explain some peoples sound sync issues as the sample rate of the sound would be wrongly recognised and things would get out of sync over time...
All above just my theory
I tried using Windows Movie Maker now thats a video and sound sync problem with my Sony Cam files!!!!it does export subtitled video without crashing though!!

even though your files might just be stereo sound, if you can try the multichannel plug in and multichannel encoder see what happens

Cheers Pete
