Avast! 4.6 on-access scanner (database version 0539-4 02/10/05) found Win32:IrcBot-BG trojan in most of the files in C:\Program Files\ratDVD\XEB\ and C:\Program Files\ratDVD\imdbquery\ (*.dll & *.ax). I haven't been able to verify this with another scanner though.

The link I used to download the program was http://www.ratdvd.dk/downloads/ratDVDSetup-0.76.1408.exe.

Is this a false positive? Please advise.

I reinstalled from the archive and checked with housecall as ddp suggested and again with Avast!. No trojans this time.

So it's a false alarm.

I still don't understand how these files got infected though. It was the only infected folder in the whole system.

I only ran ratDVD once, to install the playback filters and then loaded a ratDVD movie that I got from the net. Is it possible to get an infection from a ratDVD movie?

it's possible, just like you can get infections from anything that you download.

ran into that problem with a customer. had upgraded avg from 6 to 7 & loaded ms publisher. avg7 poppedup saying there was a virus on the system not which there wasn't a few minutes before. ran avg & got rid of the virus & scanned the ms pubisher cd which is original & found nothing. uninstalled publisher, removed all references in registry, defragged the hd & reloaded publisher. avg came up with a virus which i got rid of. so the original ms cd has a virus that avg7 or avast that i tried also can't find til loaded on system.

Had exactly the same problem with Avast and ratDVD. Unistalled Rat, debating whether to put it back on but as no else is shouting perhaps it'll be OK
