my friend said he couldn't use my discs to burn movies cause of the dvd-r and +r

so can you only burn -r discs if you have a -r burner and vice versa?

or can you burn both -r and +r with a burner

depends if the drive is -r, +r or +/-r. if drive is +/- than can do both +r & -r disks.
