I remember when i burned a bunch of dvd-rs with nero a couple years back i had compatibility issues where they wouldn't play in certain dvd players even though the same dvd-r media would play fine in them players when burned with a diffrent software, Ive been hesitant to try nero ever sense cause i wasted a ton of dvd-rs with that. So i was wondering if this is still an issue or what caused the problem back then? Thanks

Almost all new dvd players play dvd+ or - r's. The latest Nero let's you change the booktype bitrate setting so that +r's will work on allmost all stand alone dvd players. Dvd-r's naturally work on most dvd players.

I would try to upgrade Nero then and maybe upgrade the firmware for your hard drive. Your right there have been some versions of Nero that have had horrable glitches.

I don't know what version of Nero you started out with, but if it was a 5.5.x version there were a lot of people who experienced problems with it. In fact, the reason I initially switched from Nero to DVD Decrypter and then Prassi Primo (aka RecordNow Max) was all the issues I read about people having with Nero at the time. Since Nero 6 came out those issues have pretty much disappeared. Unlike 5.5, version 6 was written with DVD burning in mind, so it works much better. I still don't use it myself (I use CopyToDVD and occasionally Prassi ONES now) but the only problem I know of with the current Nero version is that it will sometimes complain about files being missing that aren't needed.

just noticed i hadn't replied to this one yet. i've done about 2000 burns under Nero 6 - with zero problems attributed to Nero itself. i personally only use Nero Burning Rom, for all my audio/data cd burning, and for 'straight' dvd burning, ie i use programs such as DVD Shrink or whatever to prepare the dvd files, then Burning Rom to simply transfer them to a blank dvd in dvd-video compilation mode. So i am using Nero in it's quite basic form (and yes i could just as easily use dvd decrypter as a burn engine or whatever other program, but i've been using Nero in these basic ways for donkey's years so have stuck with it). One thing i've learned with dvd burning under Nero (and anyone who's followed any of my endless replies to Nero troubles) is that there are simple tweaks to make to a system for Nero to work properly. Ie once firmware, adequate memory, DMA is on, decent media, sensible (low) burn speed is used etc etc etc, Nero will perform dvd burning for ever more, it just isn't tolerant of setup problems. But then again i doubt any program is either. (i used to use Roxio before Nero but that was long before i got into dvd burning and wisely ditched Roxio long ago too)
