I have been using dvd rescue to check my disks after a burn. I have found it to be inconsitant and unreliable. Is there any other freeware to do this with? Or do I have to suck it up and buy something. Either way do you have any suggestions?

it does not necessarily recover data, you need to save data, before you can recover data. its in the back up and recovery sections of Nero, the full version.

gear79 Kprobe is only for liteon burners. Is there any others you can think of?
Oh and by the way, I was reading the other forums and would like to know what booktype is? Never had to deal with it.

I don't know a lot about booktyping, but it is my understanding that booktyping to dvd-rom enables the media to be played in more standalone systems. I believe that a DVD-R cannot be booktyped, only DVD+R's can. Also some burners (i.e., Pioneer) don't alow booktyping. Someone will probably come along and give you a better more detailed explanation -- I'm still in the learning stage.

hi tsquare,

you got it just the OPPOSITE, booktyping can ONLY be done on DVD+R, it CAN NOT be done on dvd-r~ :)

simple mistake~ but what you said about offering MORE compatibility is RIGHT ON THE MONEY~!

and OFFICIAL pioneer firmwares do NOT allow booktyping on their drives, but modified ones do...hehe :)

good luck all~

OOPS...i just noticed the edit~ :) now what you said is CORRECT~ my bad~

@Doc Ty

I caught it just after I posted (damn senior moment) and tried to edit, but it wouldn't let me do so and then it finally did. Slow edit button.

jahanna77,

Well I checked at this site below and could not find your drive, perhaps there are other places you could check, but I do not know.
