I am having problems with my computer booting. Whenever I restart my computer, it goes throught the steps to windows then a long pause occurs before it clicks off like it would during a power surge. This continues again until I either shut down and try again later then windows evnentually comes up. I do notice that whenever I surf my CPU usage spikes up to 100%. can someone assist?

lol i like that lttle thank you at the end well its not very detailed is it? lol
Anyway down to the problem well i think it may be the power supply 380w does seem quite a bit but our running 3hds and 2 drives is it possible you could try another more powerful supply say 420w + ?
If not then what you could do is disconnect two hds and both dvd/cd drives from the system just by removing the power connectors from them leaving the one hd left with windows on it and see if it runs ok then
If it runs after doing one of these then you need a more powerful supply which seems most likely to me.

ah yes thanks ddp i was thinking about that i was writing that post but i couldnt find the link thanks for that!
i done that and got about 360watts before adding 30%
Right so try a more powerful power supply that should fix the problem p.s if your using firefox like me i also get it spiking up to 100% sometimes no idea why either think its a bug or adware but closing and restarting it solves it
Also when your computer cuts off quickly try and touch the metal around the power supply after disconnecting the power lead to it, if the metal is very very hot and its only been on say 5 mins then your power supply just cant cope and is cutting out

Could also be an overheat issue. Bring up Bios. Let it sit at idle for about 5 minutes. Check what Bios says your CPU temp is. You may have a bum HSF or poor circulation with all those drives and ribbon cables in there. I'm not ruling out the PSU being uderpowered (probably is the case), just giving other suggestions.

go i sure hope it is an under powered issue and not a over heated issue. what temperatures am I looking for in the BIOS? what is safe temp? side note, today after installing the 3rd drive, and booting it up, the computer just powered down completely. then it would not turn on until i unplug the power cord from the pc and re-plug it and then it powered on again......help
