How can I get MPEG2 PS footage from a JVC MC500 camcorder into Premiere Elements for editing?

You can not use Premier Elements to transfer the Video from your Camcorder to your PC...You have to use the Capture software that came with your Camcorder to transfer the Mpeg-2 Video to your PC and then you can Import the Mpeg-2 file into Premier Elements for editing....

I actually would not suggest that you edit your Mpeg-2 Video with Premier Elements or any Basic NLE because these Types of editors will allways Have to Re-encode your Files when Rendering them which Greatly degrades the Quality of the edited Video.....

If you are going to edit Mpeg-2 Video and do not want any quality Loss then you should use a Native Mpeg editor Like "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005" which will allow you to do frame accurate editing and add effects and Transitions and save it as a New Mpeg-2 without any Quality Loss and it will render your Project in a matter of Minutes were an editor like Premier elements will take many hours to render and will degrade the quality....

Most NLE Editors Like Premier are Made for editing DV AVI files and will only capture from DV Camcorders Via Firewire....

Cheers

The "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005" is a very Good Mpeg editor , probably the best there is...It will also let you add Filters and effects and Transitions to your Files without re-encodeing the whole File so there is No Quality loss when adding effects or Transitions, It also Supports Mpeg-2/VOB files with Dolby AC3 audio.....

Cheers
