emule says all servers "appear to be dead";

bearshare can't even connect to the gnutella network;

bittorent downloads dont progress past 0.00%;

adaware the program works but i can't automatically update using the program, it says "error retreiving update";

spybot says "error retreiving update info file! socket error #100161. Connection refused" when i click search for updates.

my internet works almost flawlessly. I have Windows XP professional, firewall turned off (at least i think so), and have a SBC DSL modem with a Linksys router (PPPOE connection).

here is my hijack this log if needed:

You can make sure you firewall is off by going to the start menu/control panel/ security center. It will say off next to the firewall.

Your router might be causing the problem. Usually routers seem to slow down file sharing programs but might be blocking them.

Are you running file sharing programs on the other computer using the router. Is so they may be using the same ports and that will block them from connecting.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it
