I have a Pioneer dvd model 110, I was trying to copy a home made dvd, which works fine and can visualize.

I opened Nero StartSmart and selected copy DVD
It copied the DVD to an Image on the hard Drive. once copied it asked me for an emtpy DVD and clicked next and Nero tells me "wait" and nothing happens, I can move the mouse and that is all.

I can reduce files, cannot do ALT+CNTRL+DEL, and cannot open files. System freezes.

Can you tell what is causing the freeze, Winter is not here yet. LOL

I retried copying from the Image file and the samething happens.

I use Memorex DVD-R and was burning at 4x, since I have a Toshiba DVD one of the first ones, and was told that to read burned DVD, I have to use DVD-R

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar. If you have no logfile to post, run Nero's info-tool and paste it's (long) output here.

Also, let's see exactly which Memorex you have there, download dvd identifier (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id... and use it to 'identify' one of those discs, again pasting the results here.

Memorex don't actually make discs but put their name to a (widely) varying quality in disc manufacturers. Not all Memorex are bad, but due to differing quality of disc manufacturers they use it's basically a lottery. A person who doesn't know (or care about) the difference between disc manufacturers is very likely gonna get caught out as they could be buying decent Memorex one week, then crap the next week (due to not being able to tell which manufacturers made a particular pack of disks). see what i mean from my long reply here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/229685

you pasted part of another burn log entry, so your serial number crept in there. Edit it out. for info, you can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== ***
Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

in the meantime i'll attack your logfile...

edit- those logfile entries are from CD burns only.... will still attack whichever bits i can while you look for a DVD burn entry...

Installed Nero 6.6 run info tool it did not create a nerohistory.log I had to saved it. Tried to burn and no luck.
You suspect its the Dvd disc. does it need to be reformated. I'll try with another Disc this afternoon.

I closed most of the prog. at startup, how do I get more memory available cause you mentioned I had 80 meg. free out of 380 mg.

Mean while I ran another infotool and saved the log.

I did a simulation on writing the DVD and and at the same time I had taskmanager opened.

Nero it said it was not responding
cpu usage was 2%
system Idle process 97 to 99 %

and it froze the system.

So I suspect it was more Nero, since it was a simulation.

this is the kind of thing we come to expect with CMC-manufactured discs.

I hope no-one who works there accesses afterdawn, as they'll have a hitman after me as i show up their poor media a few times every single day..

in fact a bell just went off in my head. I remember that there are warnings about early firmware for this burner. CMC discs are indeed crap but the firmware NEEDS to be updated re CMC discs specifically. you'll still have atrocious luck with the discs but at least you'll get decent failure messages instead of lockups..

and while it's on mind here's a rundown on companies such as Memorex (have copy/pasted from one of many links in my sig) -

the trouble with people like Memorex is they use widely varying quality in disc manufacturers, the most appalling being CMC Magnetics (hence the media code 'CMC Mag'). Memorex aren't the only ones who do this, others are HP, TDK, Imation etc.

snippet from a good list here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/155431 (media codes in brackets) -

Memorex DVD+R 16X (CMCMAG M01)
Memorex DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01)
Memorex DVD+R 4x (MBIPG101-R03-000)
Memorex DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01)
Memorex DVD+R 4x Printable (MCC-003-000)
Memorex DVD+R 8X (CMC MAG E01)
Memorex DVD+R 8X (PHILIPSC08)
Memorex DVD+R 8X (PRODISCR03)
Memorex DVD+RW 2.4x (CMC MAG.W01)
Memorex DVD+RW 2.4x (INFODISCA01)
Memorex DVD+RW 2.4x (RICOHJPNW01)
Memorex DVD+RW 4x (CMC MAG.W02)
Memorex DVD+RW 4x (MKM-A02)
Memorex DVD+RW 4x (RICOHJPNW11)
Memorex DVD-R 2x (CMC MAG.....)
Memorex DVD-R 2x (TAIYOYUDEN..)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (CMC MAG. AF1)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (MBI 01RG20)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (MCC 01RG20)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (ProdiscS03)
Memorex DVD-R 8X (CMC MAG AE1)
Memorex DVD-RW 1x (ProdiscDVDRW)
Memorex DVD-RW 2x (RITEKW01) MINI DVD-RW 1.36GB
Memorex DVD-RW 2x (RITEKW01....)
Memorex DVD-RW 2x (TDK502sakuM3)
MemorexDVD-RAM 2x (Optodisc)

So....for instance, in that list there are 3 varieties of +R 8x (none of which i'd say are any good really)

Memorex DVD+R 8X (CMC MAG E01)
Memorex DVD+R 8X (PHILIPSC08)
Memorex DVD+R 8X (PRODISCR03)

and here...all i'd say where any good are the MCC coded ones -

Memorex DVD-R 4x (CMC MAG. AF1)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (MBI 01RG20)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (MCC 01RG20)
Memorex DVD-R 4x (ProdiscS03)

The trouble is, you wouldn't know which ones you're gonna get, just buy picking up a pack of Memorex. And that's part of the reason why so many people have problems with them, they see the name Memorex, associate it with quality cassettes (for instance) in the dim distant past etc etc, and it's the luck of the draw as to what disc manufacturer actually made them. Hence why i won't buy Memorex, HP, TDK, Imation etc etc etc. There are ways with some companies discs, to work out which ones you're gonna get, ie what sort of tubs they're in, are they -R, what speed are particular discs etc etc but most people on the street just haven't got that knowledge and just don't care about all that. I have feet in both camps, i need to have knowledge of media, but i just want media to work, and work consistently and for good :)

Creaky thanks for the help and patience, upgraged the pioneer to 1.22 and does the same thing.

I noticed in the Process status, a flash went through and just froze the system.

What brand of DVD Disc do you recomend. My niece suppose to give me one of discs that works with her LG. so will try it.

If it works, I will return this spindle of 50 to Future Shop(best buy)
I find strange that the DVD discs are cheaper than the CD discs. maybe they're cheaply made.

nice one!.

-R discs are supposed to be better for use on older players, and if you use +R it's best to 'booktype' them (otherwise known as bitsetting). this can only be done one +R discs, and only if your burner is capable of doing this (your burner does support bitsetting)...
Booktyping +R discs to 'dvd-rom' format aims to fool standalone players into thinking they're playing normal 'pressed' movies such as you buy in the stores.

as to the Daxon discs - see these -

Creaky I check for "Bitsetting" and I think the only way can change the bitsetting is with a Pioneer progran, to simulate a DVD-rom

Now my DVD+ is burned. Can I change the bitsetting.

If Pioneer does not have a prog for the 110D, can I use the Benq or someother make program to do it. TIA

sorry, what i mean is, -R discs cannot be booktyped, only +R discs. here's a proper guide on booktyping - http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/150

In Nero, booktype option is under recorder/choose recorder/options.

try nero's 'cd-dvd speed' program, that allows booktyping (bitsetting) also.

trouble is, just looked here - http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=152091 and now i'm not sure if official Pioneer supports bitsetting on this particular drive..

And Pioneer says that their DVD supports these Discs manufacturer

CMC is there. I emailed Pioneer about the support for the Bitsetting cause its unacceptable while other have it they don't.

tried some programs to changed the Bitsetting, but they tell me the drive does not support. Do you know any scroupolous program that can do this. LOL

Can I change the Bitsetting after it has been burned. Thanks

i noticed i had QUITE a mouthful in that Daxon link creaky provided...varying opinions on media...ALL THE TIME~ :)

as creaky stated, booktype CAN NOT be changed AFTER the burn, while i am unfamiliar with the newest pioneer, i KNOW FOR A FACT, that ALL the previous models (i have the pioneer dvr-109) using OFFICIAL firmware from pioneer ARE NOT BITSET CAPABLE, only using hacked/modified firmware will this be available to you (i don't know about the dvr-110 model as i have NO experience with it, i have the model PREVIOUS to this one) and using modified buffalo firmware, i CAN and DO booktype my dvr-109~ :)

anyways, using GOOD quality media makes a big difference, and firmware updates are a MUST~ i would STRONGLY suggest you ditch those Daxons and get some "good stuff" Taiyo Yuden (make sure they are genuine/purchased from a REPUTABLE dealer) or Verbatim~ :)

check my sig. for specifics~ :)

good luck~
