Hi,
I have some questions that I would like to get your opinions on. First, some background. My computer is on the older side but it does what I need it to - 500 mHz, 384 mB Ram, Windows 988se - slower, yes, but it works. My DVD writer is DVD +/- RW Optorite DD0405.
1. Nero OEM software suite v. 6.3.0.3 came with the writer and it works fine. Should I upgrade to Nero 6.6.0.16 [free upgrade]? Would that do anything more [better]? There are two bundles of software for 6.6. First one contains the burning software and the second bundle - NVE 3.1.0.16 - has Recode2 which appears to be popular here. Should I forget the upgrade thinking "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?"
2. Could I continue to use 6.3.0.3 and install the second bundle only which contains Recode2 even though it appears to be with v. 6.6? Would that create a problem?
3. Which is better to use, DVD+ or DVD- blanks or doesn't it matter?

- spooky, same as my previous PC for dvd's, except my Optorite was a DD401 or 403 i think. but it was rubbish so got binned for a Sony. That's sufficient for dvd ripping. i only really upgraded as that PC kept playing up (past it's sell by date).

- depends what you want to do with Nero. Upgrading to 6.6.0.16 is a no-brainer and it's one less thing to possibly give you problems. I personally don't use Nerovision as the odd film i convert from AVI or whatever is done via VSO's divxtodvd software (there's a free version)

- dunno...(i don't use Recode either) but you can certainly use DVD Shrink and/or other stuff. Someone else will no doubt elaborate re Nerovision and Recode... you'll need to gen up on which software deals better with newer copy protections (software such as dvdfab decrypter) as dvd shrink is outdated re copy protections but is still a fantastic shrinker - you just need a.n.other program to deal with the copy protection where Shrink can't do it..

- i used to use predominately -R - no reason, they just happened to be the first discs i bought so i stuck with them. Older standalone players are supposed to like -R better. I know use noth dash and plus formats and i 'booktype' (otherwise known as bitsetting) my +R discs to dvd-rom format which fools standalone players into thinking they're playing a normal 'pressed' disc...
