Computer not booting - possible motherboard problem

Hey all,

I'm hoping someone can help me.
I'm having some problems getting my computer to work. With my original power supply I can't get the computer to turn on at all. I've bought a new power supply and as soon as the power cord is plugged in everything comes on (fans, lights, etc.) but nothing happens (ie. not booting up and/or not going into bios).
I've tried to clear the cmos and such but still to no avail.
I don't have another computer to test all the components to see if it's the motherboard or not.
Did anyone have a similar problem or knows how to solve this one it would be greatly appreciated.
The motherboard is AU31 (FIC I believe) with AMD XP 2600+ processor.

Besides the main motherboard power plug, is there another 4 pin aux power plug on the motherboard? And is it plugged in securely? Are you getting any beeps on startup? How many? Was this motherboard ever working before for you?

I had to replace my motherboard a few months back. I originally thought it was the power supply as that had twice in the span of a yr. Bought a newer/better power supply and nothing. THe light would come on, the fan on the motherboard would sping for 2 secs then shutdown. If that's happening to you, then it's def the board.

Yeah, both power plugs are plugged in securely to the mother board.
The computer was working fine for the past 2 years till late last week.
I'm not getting any beeps. The only reason I would think it's the board is because nothing shows up even with the second power supply and the only things that get the power seem to be the fans and the LED's on the front panel. I wish I could test all the components on another system to eliminate one after the other, but not having another computer or similar system is making it difficult.

disconnect all cards, ram & cables from motherboard except videocard, 1 stick of ram & motherboard power cables. reseat those.

Allready done it twice.
I've also tried to clear the CMOS and repeat the above steps and constantly get the same symptoms.
Right now I'm thinking the motherboard is fried and will need a new one, but don't want to go out and buy one just in case it is something else.

Pull the board from the chassis. Look on the back side of it. I got hit with a lightning strike, and the surge came through my network lines. Cooked the PCI slot that my nic was in. Nice burn mark on the back side of the mobo. As soon as I would plug the power cord intop the PSU, the computer would kick on and run the fans. Thats all it would do. Sounds like your board is toast.
