I have an I/O Magic DVDRW IDE1008 8X DVD writer, and occasionally it will open and close by itself. I tried to backup a dvd but in the burning process just before it started burning with nero it opens and causes the project to fail. Why is this happening? What can i do to fix it? I can burn cd's fine with no problems.

I have this same drive and have the same problem. Also have problems burning to 16x media and am scared to do a firmware upgrade because my firmware is 0052 and the new one is 0060 and that a lot of upgrades I missed.

@princekee

as i mentioned in your other thread...if you are worried about taking such a huge leap in firmware revisions, do it incrementally...:)

for example, the one you have is VERY OLD...maybe first flash it to the next revision up...and then reflash again (AFTER A REBOOT) to the next version up from that and so on...i had to do this before on one of my OLD drives i took out of the closet...it wouldn't work properly with a direct v.1 to v.9 flash, so, i went from version 1 to like version 3...then rebooted...then, i went from version 3 to version 5...etc..etc..you get the point?

it's a safe thing to do, just make sure you have the correct firmware for your drive...there SHOULD be no problems doing it "incrementally" as i stated...good luck
