you just need a DSL router so you can connect the xbox to your computer so you will be able to flash the matrix's bios when you get it.

wassup man..

to flash the matrix chip with a bios, you just need to have a parrallel port (lpt) onyour computer to attach the programmer to and then use winLPC to flash the evox or xcutioner bios file to it.

the router and network card is for after you get the mod chip installed and you booted yoru xbox with evoluition x dashboard, this lets you read and write to your xbox's harddrive and install homebrew apps and games (NES, Atari, SNES, N64 emulators; media players and dongle free dvd player (no need for the dvd kit).

hope that helps ya, and yes, your computer will have an LPT port.

you can use a network card and crossover cable.
might be a little more tricky to setup but it works fine and is cheaper.

how did you connect your laptop and desktop?
if you did it with a network crossover cable a network card, thats all you need.
From the looks of things, you might be better off getting a router or find a friend that knows a littlea bout networking..

if you have more ?s, drop a note

check the link from above it has all the utilities that u will need. the only diff between the red and the blue bios is the color of the XBOX emblem when you start the system up.. it is up to you which one you choose. I use blue. all you need is the prohrammer that came with the matrix xhip to program it. you have to push the chip against the programmer usually for it to work.

I use A NIC in my PC and a crossover cable with FlashFXP with the normal IP settings from the net.
PC: IP 192.168.0.1
subnet mask 255.255.255.0

XBOX: IP 192.168.0.2
DefGateway 192.168.0.1

and these settings work just fine, with FlashFXP

P-4 1.7Ghz
512mb PC2100
80gb HDD
64mb GeForce4
Pioneer DVR-105
PS2 v.7 No-SolderMod&Swap Magic

There seems to be some confusion about the Matrix mod-chip.

The chip comes with no BIOS flashed. You need to find a suitable BIOS (eg. EvoX v2.6/v3.6) and flash it using the bundled programmer. After that you're set to go. There's no need for a network connection between XBOX and PC, unless you wish to transfer data between them.

I got another problem. Here is exactly what I did:I programmed the chip with a blue.bin file I created with the batch file. I aligned the chip with both dip switches on and made sure the chip blinked green. Then turned of the xbox and also turned off dip switch 1. When I turned on the xbox my chip turns green but my xbox turns off 3 times and finally stays on but blink red and green. Next I burned the boxplore.iso flash image on the cdrw. Next I put in the cdrw and turned off my xbox. When I turned it back on my screen just stayed black and my xbox light blinks green and red. However, My matrix stays lit green. Am I doing something wrong? How do I fix it.

i am having the same problem blinking red and green 3 times after shutting on and off. i posted the same problem in another thread and Dank told me that its my matrix aligment problem and advised me to solder it to the d0 pins. i didnt do it yet cause once in a while my xbox works when i dont move it around much.

Ok thats cool, but how do I solder this thing. I don't know a thing about soldering. Do you think I should try to tighten my screw a little more?

You can get the Matrix aligned on v1.1 without soldering. It just takes alot of patience. The blinking green doesn't mean anything on v1.1. You need to get both the green blink and a clean boot (ie. no rebooting three times). Xbox will start cleanly without the DVD/HDD installed.

And make sure you screw it in tight. Very tight. On v1.1 the Matrix chip will get misaligned by the slightest bump, if you leave the chip even a little bit loose.
