i recently plugged in my mp3 player to update the songs on it and in plugging that in it knocked out my epson r300 and my ext hard drive if i plugged these in while comp is switched on it freezes and if i plugged them in from cold it wont start at all. so i decided to format and reinstall everything and start from scratch but when doin this everything seemed to work fine until i installed service pack 2 then the same problems start. so i decided to try windows 2000 and again everything was fine until i installed the drivers for the usb controller and then i had the same problem. but i have 4 other things that are usb and they seem to all work fine can some one help me with this issue.

@spud112

I am assuming that everything is plugged into a USB port that is part of your motherboard and not a USB adapter going from 1 USB to 4 as an example. I am also assuming that this happens whether you plug in your MP3 in a front USB port or a rear USB port. If you haven?t tried that please do. The motherboard has pins that allow USB ports on the front of the case to work and also has USB ports attached directly to the motherboard in the back.

So, does this happen no matter which port is used, front or back?

Does this happen with just the MP3 plugged in and all others are disconnected?

And have you tried one device at a time until it kicks out again?
