DVD recorder w buffer vs. Gtwy Celeron machine

My computer is a GTWY with Celeron 1.4mhz I believe, and 384 ram with WIN XPSP2. Currently only DVD drive. Anyone have experience with this platform and its success in getting good video, either copying or Xfer analog to DVD???
My gut says that a buffered DVDR will assist in overcoming borderline speed/processing of my CPU????
