BenQ minimum writing speed

Hi
The max. writing speed is easy to find out but how can i find out the min. or all the writing speeds that my drives capable of? BenQ 1640.

Download DVD Identifier (free program) and put the blank disc in the drive and the Program will tell you all the write discriptors that are available in the firmware for that media.

The slowest that I've been able to record with my BenQ DW1640 is at 2.4x on media rated 1x-8x ... It gets better scans at 8x with 8x media

I dont understand my speed.

Is it the higher the number the faster the recording speed.

My system says

Maximum
2x
4x
6x
8x
etc.

That leads me to think that the lower the number the faster but when I reseach thats not what I see. can someone explain to me whats slower or faster.

Whats throwing me off is the maximum above my 2x

 Awww .. they just do that to confuse otherwise unconfused people .. I like it that way because I'm a speed demon and just max out anyway ... my opinion is that the numbers are there for entertainment purposes

 And yes, you are correct in your assumption that the larger the number the faster the burning speed ...

 You do realize SmithW that the world is slowly being taken over by computer programers ... and they just ain't right ...

If you ever heard of the new world order. The computers are it. Some folks call it AI or Artificial Intelegence. Remember in the Superman movie. the one with Richard Pryor when the computer wanted to take over. That junk isnt to far fetched.

That benq should be able to over burn 8x media to 12x and 16x.
The q-suite can control the over burning with solid burn.Also can set the booktype on plus format and set it for dvd-rom.That's why I only use the plus format for the superb compatability on stand alones.

I agree with catfreak. The slower 2.4x burns give me the most issues. 4x burns of 8x and 16 media are ok,but the 8x and 12x burns yield better pi/po scans.Of course this is using quality media like taiyo yuden/verbatim/hitachi/and ritek. I wouldn't even try burning at max speed rating or overburning crappy media.

Johnytuon,You've got a hell of a burner,just give her some quality plus format media/burn at disc rated speed/booktype them to dvd-rom and if you have any playback issues,then it's usually the stand alone player/s fault! I've got 2 benq 1620s and a 1640 and these babies backups will play just about anywhere I desire.

If you have an extra dvd-rom drive,wait till you try on the fly backups!
