System: HP/2.26ghz/1gb Mem/80gb HDD/1394 Firewire/Sony TRV740 Cam.

Software: Pinnacle Studio 7/Vegas Video 3.0/Windows MM2/Arcsoft Showbiz/Ulead DVD Factory/Sonic MyDVD

Could someone put this in proper perspective for a newbie?

Project: 1 hour 20 year old VCR tape to DV to computer for edit to DVD. Capture success .... it's on the computer in a 13gb avi file.

Problem: I struggle with finding one software that encompasses the whole project for me. I like Vegas for cropping out a bad edge, track fx, audio fx, but have a hard time with titles, trimming, and crossfades.

Whereas transitions, titles and trimming are easy for me in Studio 7. And I like the DVD capabilities of Ulead DVD Factory.

Here is what I don't understand.

1. I capture in avi. Then if I edit in Studio 7 first to get my effects ... what format should I save this in if I am going to import into Vegas for final touches?

2. After I edit with Vegas what format should I save it in for DVD Factory?

3. Does DVD Factory re-render this because I can see this clip getting rendered 3 times by my method and will I lose a quality in doing this?

I am concerned that I am not following proper sequence or format for what I am trying to accomplish and I am going to run out of disk space quickly by my method.

If I were you, I would render the video to DVD compliant mpeg-2 stream via Vegas and then import that into MyDVD. Vegas has the MainConcept mpeg encoders builtin (after registration). Otherwise, I would render as DV codec via Vegas, then use DVD factory to encode as mpeg2, then author in MyDVD.
