Hi all. I have started to look around for the purchase of an LCD-TV. I am probably looking at something in the 37" range. I'm wondering what people's opinions are on the top 3 features I should be looking at when comparing LCD-TV's. Also, any suggested manufacturers would be welcome. Thanks.

I don't know a lot about lcd tv's, but the one we have was recommended as one of the top 3 lcd tv's around. it's only 32" also. but i thought i'd tell you, because it is simply the best tv we have had ever!

i'm no tv savvy, but you should be looking for

pixel res - is it HDTV ready (or does it just say it is HDTV ready? Check The pixellage!! ;)

get it from a decent manufacturer for televisons (Sony, Samsung etc)

make sure it has good sound (may be a good idea to compliment your television with a decent home theatre kit)

read the reviews first (as with any tech product)

Mine is The
Sony KDL-V32XBR1
pixel res = 1366x768
a USB connection
features both NTSC and ATSC (HDTV) tuners,

http://hometheater.about.com/cs/television/tp/aalcdtva.htm - (top 1)

and with it we got a decent home theatre kit. cant find a pic, but its a modest £360 pioneer total output 550W RMS (no amp:(

anyway, hope that helps! :)

Best brands:

Sony (XBR)
Samsung
Sharp (Aquas)

Key features:

1) Deep dark black levels and high Contrast ratio.

2) Minimal screen-door effect.

3) HDMI-HDCP port(s).

Optional: ATSC tuner (Digital over-the-air) and QAM-clear tuner (Digital over-coaxial "cable").

Optional: Digital Cable Card slot or Digital Cable Ready (DCR)

Could I get a bit of clarification on the "true" HDTV pixels? Would 1024x768 be considered not "truly" HDTV ready? I'd really like to know, and would appreciate any advice on this. Thanks!

1024x768 is more than enough for 720p. You just won't get the full benifit of a 1080i broadcast. All 1080i broadcasts will be downconverted to 768p (thats right 768p, the displays native resolution). I think that 1366x768 is W-XGA resolution though not 1024x768.
