I recently decided to try DL DVD's and purchased 15 Ridata +R DL 2.4X DVDS. The first two burned flawlessly but the next 6 attempts resulted in some rather expensive coasters. My Burner is a Plextor PX-740A firmware ver101. Is it possible that Most of my Ridata DVD's Are flawed.. Any suggestions
The Burn never completes and stops at 50% with an error. So I'm assuming it is the second layer

If it were me I would take the DVD's back where you purchased them. As far as the rest being bad, keep on burning, and if the rest are also bad, take them back also.
But that's just me.
Good luck,
Rich

Did you use Decrypter in iso read and then iso write using your mds file with a burn speed of 2.4x? I have a Plextor 716UF and have had a couple of coasters with the Ritek, however have had not problems with Verbatim. Decrypter is actually the best program I have found for doing dual layers, Nero still has some issues.

Yes I always use ISO for reading in Decrypter and using the MDS file to write...My guess is it's simply bad Media.. I just recieved an order from Newegg (the others came from supermediastore.com) for the same Ridata but in 25 pack spindle and tried those and they worked. But here's the catch they aren't manufactured by Ridata check this out

Hi I recently purchased a pack of the RiData DVD + R DL in the 25 pack spindle and everytime I burn using Decrypter my stand alone DVD player which is a Toshiba DVR says that the disk is unsuported. I tried changeing the booktype to DVD-Rom but I still get the same error message. Any suggestions.

Hwkpride,
I believe you can only bookmark when you have a blank disc in the burner.

Yes, I have a cheapo DVD player which will play the DVD, but the quality is poor and the menu option never pops up.

Also, I should mention that I tried changing the bookmark before I actually did another burn, but had the same unsuported media error on my player.

It may be that your Toshiba is unable to read DL or it's fussy about the disc

@gurnard
The first Ritek 5 pack I got were the RicohJpn and did not give me a problem but the next six I purchased that came singly packaged were the Ritek brand and those were the ones that gave me trouble, still have 4 left and will try again to see how they work out. But then a lot depends on the player, my old Toshiba has no problems with Verbatim but a new Sanyo player I had bought will not play any of the dual layers, so go figure.

hi all,
well, i've had very good success with Ritek Ridatas DVD+R DLs, i guess a lot of it has to do with my Sony (rebadged Liteon) really liking this media...i have purchased mine in both the 25 pack spindle as well as the jewel cased individual ones (came in a 5 pack plus free Ridata DVD+RW disc~)~ :)
i have yet to get a Ridata Ritek DL disc with the RICOHJPN coding, all mine have been the RITEK-D01-001 coded ones; i would like to try them out, but just haven't gotten "lucky" or "unlucky" depending on WHO you ask...hehehe
since i've never used the RICOHJPN-D00-001, i can not comment on the compatibility of them with MY setup (sony and pioneer drives primarily, liteon & nec drives on my secondary computer and a Benq 1640 on my 3rd computer) :)
so, until i run into some RICOHJPN-D00-001, i will have to stick w/ my Ritek and Verbatim DVD+R DLs :), also a 2nd note, i WILL agree with everyone that comments about Verbatim DVD+R DLs, they are simply THE BEST, hands down...but, on MY setups, the Ritek RITEK-D01-001 work VERY well too~ :) when i try out the RicohJPND001s in the future, i will let everyone know how THOSE work out, but in the meantime...
1. Verbatim DVD+R DLs (made in singapore) are the best
2. Ritek Ridata DVD+R DLs (made in taiwan) are my 2nd choice
3. haven't tried anything else yet and most likely will in the near future
but ONE thing i CAN assure i will NEVER buy is the Memorex DLs, i don't care if THEY ARE THE RitekD01 coded ones, the chances of getting the WORST DLs ever (meaning the ones made by Philips) will keep me away at ALL costs~ :) Philips can't even get their single layer discs right, what makes you think they are any different with double layer? LOL

Just to add the dual layers by TDK are coding out to RicohJpn, have not tried them yet. Saw them at the CompUSA but they were more expensive than the Verbs so I took a pass, if they come down in price I may then give them a go.
