PSP ver 1.0 and loaders

I have a jap PSP ver 1.0 firmware and I have been trying to run umd emulator 0.8c, fastloader 0.7 and device hook without any luck. Only fastloader is recognised, it loads up but then hangs when i try to load an iso. I am reluctant to upgrade my firmware but I've been told that most of the latest homebrew and loaders only work on ver 1.5
