I have been trying to find the best way to capture Analog AV to Digital (either MPG or AVI) for some time now. I researched the Canopus devices, but opted to go with an ATI HDTV Wonder that I figured would allow AV capture through it's dongle, plus for $150 I also got an HD and Analog Tuner. I was LATER tole I need to add an ATI Theater 550 (I chose a board by MSI) because my custom built WinMCE 2005 wouldn't recognize a tuner without it. I tried to just get ATI MMC to work with the HDTV, but there are too many issues with MMC running on MCE. After I added the Theater 550, ATI admited that MMC isn't even compatible with THEATER 550. "WHAT? HELLO?" I Say
I appreciate ATI usually gets on the phone with me and with second level support, but they finally admitted that non of their products are GUARANTEED to work. "I'M SORRY, COME AGAIN!" I'm shocked.
Their literature should only be interperated to read "IT SHOULD WORK, IF IT DOESN'T WELL WE DIDN'T TEST IT THAT WAY." That's what a level 2 support tech told me. I've given up with them, but I have $300 in tuner cards (+$250 nVidia Workstation graphics card) now and I need to get a solution that works.
I have tried NERO Vision to capture, Windows Movie Maker and even the esteemed VirtualDub. All render AV Sync Problems. I now wish I had just gone with a Canopus breakout box with hardware encode. I JUST WANT AV SYNC. AHHHHHHH!
Any advice MUCH appreciated. ALthough don't tell me to get a Canopus as I'm already too deep in the hole.
