my old burner which just went kaput! was a pioneer 107 d.
heres my problem,it only burns at max 2.4x,whereas my pioneer would burn at 8xspeed,no problem at all.this is when i use nero with the latest updates,6.0.16!
any ideas guys?

I suggest you update your firmware. Check what you have and see what's the latest version. If you scroll around you can find some Philips posts.

There could be a few other things that involved such as DMA, firmware, low RAM, etc. Let's have the very last portion of your Nero log and "remember" to take out your Nero serial number that starts with 1A23 or 1A20, then post your error or successfully burned log here, so we can take a look at it. To get your Nero logs, go here C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory and scroll down to the very last section.

Looks like you don't have the full log, did you edit out by a chance?

I wonder how come it doesn't show the firmware after the model? May be you need to google on the net for the latest firmware for both of them if there is one available, or go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php and have a look around. I couldn't find any on the PHILIPS at all though.

No blank media is inside your burner. What kind of media are you using? Don't use cheap media like Memorex (CMC MAG) and other unknown brands. I highly recommend Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (Made In Japan) for your next burning project.

Here is an example of mine, from a successfully completed log.

6.6.0.16 has been out long enough to prove pretty stable for most ppl. i'd stay away from 7.x for a while, let other ppl get hit by bugs and wait until more patches have been released.

You're welcome... and no problem. I'm glad you have sorted things out. Yes, keeping your burner's firmware up-to-date is very useful -- not only that, but it will enhances media compatibility and burning performances as well.

Now all you need is to get high quality media such as Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (Made In Japan) for your next dvd burning project.

@G101

I totally agree with Creaky that the last Nero 6.6.0.16 is awesome, perhaps one of the greatest from Nero. I've never experienced any issues whatsoever. On the other hand, I'm not saying that Nero 7 is bad. However, tons of members has reported that Nero 7 has some bugs that's causing a lot of errors. Evidently, Nero 6.6.0.16 is still the best in my opinion.

yup... and for my uses of Nero i could just as easily still be using 6.6.0.0, which was bulletproof for me for the whole time i used it. but i always recommend everyone else go to 6.6.0.16 in case they use Nero for other things (i'm simple ie i just do audio/data cd's and 'dvd-video' burns where Nero is simply writing dvd data to disc - i could just as easily use another prograam but as i have Nero Burning Rom i use it cus it's real nice and easy to use)
