where can i find a guide for the best/worst dvd burners? With real reviews,ratings etc. thanks to all that reply

I don't think there are any rankings there per se. The major OEMs for burners are NEC, Lite-On, Benq, and Plextor. Most burners are either one of these brands or one of these rebadged with a different name (e.g., Mad Dog, Memorex, etc.). Sony uses Lite-On and Benq. I have 3 NEC burners and 1 Litey. I love the NECs; the Litey, not so much. Yet other people swear by the Litey. The Beng is also very good. I chose the NEC because there is so much hacked firmware available for it to remove the riplock (reading speed throttler), RPC protection, and booktype bitsetting. It's also cheap ($40 at Newegg and other places).
