i have downloaded a movie, converted it into dvd with vso (divx to dvd)and burt it with nero express. it plays fine but some of the picture is missing on each side when it plays. i am not a very technical person but i do manage the basics, i have tried different setting on the tv but no joy. is there some piece of excellent software that can help? can i adjust somthing in the converting/burning software i am already using? or do i simply have to choose a different type of download? thank for any advice.
sounds like a good starting point, but i cant establish the resolution of the file after vso convertion when it becomes a VOB file. also i am not exactly sure what you mean by resolution, is it image width 608 pixels, height 256 pixels which is the infomation i found in the AVI file prior to convertion with vso?
Yeah, that's the thing. Sometimes things go wrong during the encoding, and the resolution of the movie might be changed from e.g. 720x480 to 480x480, turning it into square shape, thus not fitting the tv screen.
You may use e.g. Media Player Classic to play the AVI before and after encoding and check the resolution (or size) while playing (select 'properties').
Alternatively, you may try encode with another program (e.g. Winavi, DVDSanta) to see if things are better.
yes your right. it has changed from 608pixels x 256pixels unconverted to 720 x 480 (AR 16:9) converted. i have taken your advice and tryed dvdsanta, there is an option in setup to choose either 16.9 wide screen or 4.3 full screen, should i choose the full screen? also should i choose PAL or NTSC?
The wide screen mode (16:9) did it. Try keep the resolution to 720x480 and set aspect ratio to 4:3 (full screen). If you want to try again with VSO, force the aspect ratio to 4:3 to see if the problem can be fixed.
As for tv mode, set it to NTSC if you're living in US.
Check the results before the final burning, though.
