It simply seems the Philips liked the CMC media better than the Litey liked the Ritek. There are a lot of factors at play like the burner's write strategy and the speed of burn. Some burners simply like some media better than others and some burners have better write strategies than others. It can be quite complicated at times.

I recommend NEC, Benq and Lite-On oem drives. I prefer NEC myself mainly because I've never had any problems. I have a Litey but never use it because of problems I've had. I think it's just a lemon drive. Many people use the 1693 and love it. My newest is the NEC 3540 and I really like it. The BenQ 1640 is most excellent as well. Many swear by Pioneer and Plextor.
