Well, I rented this DVD yesterday and attempted to back up a single copy for myself and what happened next is what we'll be discussing. After using Shrink to analyze and encode or compress this film I moved to back-up the movie to my hard drive and got a pop-up that said the disc was still encrypted with DVD43 active through the process? Well, I use some of the alternative tactics I've learned here and created an ISO image file using NERO Burning-Rom which allowed me to create a copy to DVD disc. Now the strange thing is this ISO image to DVD media copy is also encrypted? Now what initially seemed to be a successful alternative in the ISO image file, turns out may not be the answer. I'm here to tell everyone that this process fed me a couple coasters which I attribute again to the tricky encryption found on this DVD. I ask that no one here remind me that I'm a newbie with regards to what I have experienced. I am inviting any and all to rent or purchase this film and witness 1st hand this trouble I have discribed as opposed to assumimg you already know. Keep in mind this is a new DVD release and it is very possible that I have encountered a new form of encryption used to keep us all from making copies of anykind for any reason. Chime in people, let me know what you think. The movie was produce by 1st Look.

can't help you as you're talking in a public forum about renting a movie and having trouble copying it....that's not overly wise...

I think you let the DVD title "CONVICTED":) scare you away from the post. My topic is about encryption, I'm not asking for help just some dialog relative to the topic. The same feedback anyone gets here at this forum. Whoa, easy man. Check your own post links, don't be hypocrite?

I think he meant to say he purchased the DVD from a rental store that was selling off excess stock.

Creaky, ya kidding me. "Rent" Not met in the alley for brown bag transaction before the street date. Just look around, there are countlesss topics going on right now involving discussions about backing up a single copy of a movie. They also have made mention of the movie rental outlets that they aquire these movies from. Have you seriously viewed your links. I'm just a regular member here having a discussion....That's all. Let's get back to the topic.

i'm not gonna get into an argument here, but what do you mean "have i reviewed my links" and "Let's get back on topic here". if there's other threads with talk of renting films to copy then it needs reporting as this site, while very 'modern re it's topics, does NOT advocate piracy.
And no, i'm not kidding. if there are other discussions re renting stuff and copying then they're only here cus no-one reported or noticed them. Discussion is fine, rent-to-copy is not

Yeah, I get it. A play on words or verbage...But I do seem to remember a recent discussion here where members "Openly" discussed movies being released early to movie rental outlet employees for view and guess what else................Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Come on let's move on quit the paranoya man. The fact that we all have a means of backing up movies if you get what I mean, could be seen as questionable (To put it lightly) amongst other things. Again let's loose the semantics, and just talk.

Whoooooooooo (Sigh) If I can start all over. Please disregard the comments above that do not pertain directly to the topic below (Including mine).

Read two lines up from "enrage". He was able to copy it. Looks like you bought (cough) a disk with a bad pressing.

@enrage...Please explain (Using what?). I have never came accross the trouble I described. Again using standard SHRINK to Nero method of backing up this DVD does not work. And ISO is an option, but it does with problems i.e. Likely coasters produced while attempting. Also as I mentioned the encryption remains on the copy (Now this I've seen before).

@rocky999....SONY DVD-R as always as of late. I ask that you not piggyback, try it yourself. CONVICTED by the way is a good suspense drama, thriller worth watching. Oh might I add a new discovery. DVD43 does not even attempt to remove the encryption from the SONY dvd-r copy I have. The error reads as follows:
NERO RECODE2 Encountered an error and cannot continue.
This DVD is copy-protected!
Copy protection error- The read failed because the sector is encrypted.
I'm not dreaming this stuff people. Check it out for yourselves.

@paradyme
rip in file mode when using DVD Decryptor and then select Open Files in DVD Shrink
dont even try to use DVD43 if your getting errors.
if your still getting errors when using dvdd or shrink then its probably a bad press

Thanx...enrage. This looks like it might work (I'm trying it now). But what do you make of this sort of encryption. I mean for me, your suggestion would be considered a back door or secondary option for me. I'm used to using my 3 favorites DVD43,SHRINK then Nero RECODE2. This encryption method on this disc is new to me. What's really smart is to encrypted the copy. Hmm that's genius. Somebody's on their job. I just might need to email Slysoft for a copy of AnyDVD that is, if it works.

"SUCCESS"...............But Decrypter even found it strange as it indicated in the pop-up that gave me my decrypting options. Thanx again engage.

Again, Stop with the semantics. What are you using your DVD burner and decrypter software for? Home movies? I don't think so. Besides that was not my reason for starting the thread. I got the feedback I needed. That was all. Seems like we have a couple members who like to police paragraghs for attention. If your don't like my phrasing, don't reply. Happy burning.

Sheesh, how does someone alert a moderator around here? paradyme, you clearly don't get it. As mentioned by countless people throughout these forums, this is not a site to discuss techniques for piracy, nor do the members here advocate it. Stop with the semantics? Wise up. People here are often interested in making personal backups of media they already own. Get it? (BTW, does someone have a large frozen sturgeon that can be used to clobber this guy over the head?)

It never fails to amaze me that people *MUST* insist upon splitting hairs on a topic.
The member had a Q, which pertained to a possible new decrypting method. It, was found that the proven combination of Decrypter / Shrink had no problem processing the said DVD.
End of story . . . Members, keep insisting that backing up *THEIR* own copy etc is what the intent is, blah, blah, blah.
Lets all call a spade a spade. People are indeed copying DVD's which they do not own, or have the legal right to make a copy of.
Move on . . .

Ditto that Teken.........Key board bullies are on a rampage.....cowards. If they read on they would see I was happy with my feedback. That's it, no more to it. Instead members here want to start a pissing contest? Maybe you have me confused. I don't start trouble. Again my thread was about encryption. Even if you have an opinion about how I aquired my DVD movie, I'm not advertising. It's what I choose to do. Your bringing uneeded attention to this thread by attempting to villify me according to your opinions. Policing my words as if this were my 1st thread. I ask again to those who wish to make a spectical about this ever so simple thread and inquiry. What are we using decryption software for? The truth is I'm not personally concerned with what anyone does with there software. So show me simple respect in replying to the thread or simply move on to another topic. I really don't wish to expound on this right or wrong BS, again, I'm not advertising or asking anyone to do what I do as if what I do was bad or unheard of. I've read many threads here that include the words NETFLIX and BLOCKBUSTER no one flames anyone on those threads? What's the hissy fit about my 1st sentence in my post. Or is this an effort to power trip? Anyone can see, I'm somewhat new here, But I stand by my comments as they were not meant to entyce anyone to "Pirate" movies or violate any AD forum rules.

At the end of the day, this forum is to exchange positive feed-back / idea's, along with factual information which will assist others in their goal(s).
Lets *NOT* make something which is common, and known, into something bigger than it has to be.
There are 99999999999999 other sites which can, and do adhere to strict rules of conduct, and what can be stated in a open forum. This so happens to not be one of them, as 9999999999999 other previous threads have proven this to be the case.
At the end of day, the relevent information was obtained, and those who needed to voice their discontent did so.
Move on . . .

see here's the thing, it doesn't matter how YOU or anyone else see's it as right or wrong, it's how Afterdawn see's it. it's our rules, plain and simple. you might be poirating shit but thats not what we're here for. people do make back up copies of DVD's they own, and thats what the info here is for. if other people want ot use that info to run out ot the local rental store and do something sleazy then go right ahead, we really dont give as shit as long as we dont know about it. that dont mean we are here to help anyone pirate every movie or game they can rent. since this site is under the daily watchful eye of "the man", things have to be tiptoed around and put delicately, whether anyone likes it or not thats simply the way it is and the way it will continue to be. our site, our rules, case closed. so everyone that adopts the "ohhh waaaahhhh everyone else here is talking about it" can just go to hell, everyone else here that is talking about it will soon be dealt with if they haven't been already. so again i say just to be clear, our site, our rules, if ya dont like it then take a hike.
