Can't fool my Toshiba RS-TX20

I have a Toshiba RS-TX20 which is a DVR player with Tivo that doens't seem to like DVD + R media at all. I am trying to fool it by changing the booktype but I have been unsuccessful. I am using an NEC ND - 3540A burner. I have tried to change booktype by updated my firmware to maddog 1.w7 and also using Decrypter to change booktype, but Decrypter always reads the media as DVD + R DL still. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it reads DVD+R DL before and after the burn.
