You need a mod to play games. You need a software mod like Swap Magic or a hardware mod like a modchip. Use DVD Decrypter to burn PS2 games. Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.

Doesn't matter. Always good to have more than one way to do things.

rule of thumb is to burn the disc at half the speed it is
rated for.
Burn 8X DVD's at 4X
4X DVD's at around 2X
and so on, i like the 8X speed DVD's myself burned at 4X
works for me every time.
Also make sure you get really good media to burn on.
cheap crap like Memorex just doesn't work well.
Philips,TDK,Verbatim,Ritek,Taiyo Yuden DVD-R
and make sure you don't use the PC or have anything else running
in the backround when you burn like antivirus software.

So far I've burned DQVIII (Jap) and Star Ocean 3 on Maxell DVD-R's. DVD Decrypter is as easy to use as everybody says it is.

so dvd decripter is all i need to rip games and burn them when i download them from torrent or something, and it supplies the .iso .mdf .mds files....basically the extension known for ps2 games?
thanks for remarking the thumb rule, i always use it cause i like safe burns i mostly buy verbatim so i have never had any probs there and always burn at 4x
i think i get the details i just now need to buy the modchip and have it installed in the local flea market (where i usually buy the games =P) anyways i really appreciate the help its more easier than i thought ^_^

Well make sure the installer is reliable. Somehow the image of a guy in the back alley of a flea market somewhere makes me think of this guy:
You should go through a reputable installer like teammodders.com. They installed mine and were real honest and straight forward. I can't wait to get my Matrix Infinity chip. They also did Steimy's and several other people's on this site. If you're gonna get a chip, go with the DMS 4 or Matrix Infinity.

14. Q. How do I burn PS2 CD-ROM based games?
A. Use Alcohol 120%.
Ripping the game to your Hard Drive:
1. Open Alcohol 120%.
2. Insert the disk you wish to create the image from in your CD-ROM drive. Click image making wizard.
3. Set the read speed to 1x, check ignore read errors, fast skip error blocks, leave the write method alone, select your recorder, set the write speed to 4x, and set the datatype to PS2.
4. Click next.

Burning the game to CD-R:
1. Once the image is created you'll have an mdf and an mds file. Click finish if necessary.
2. Insert your blank CD-R.
3. Right click the mdf file and go to image burning wizard. Set the write speed to 4x, leave the write method alone, set the data type to PS2, select your recorder, and click next.

15. Q. How Do I burn PSX games?
A. Same method except set the datatype to Playstation.

Alcohol 120%: http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Alcohol_120_

16. Q. What do I need to play PSX backups?
A. Modchip or Breaker Pro: http://breakerpro.com/

PSX backups can be found here: You have to register, but it's free.

Burn them at 4x or 8x. Some people have issues with 16x Verb's. I always recommend getting quality 4x or 8x media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Try the 16x Verb's first, if they fail, try getting some quality 4x or 8x media. In the future start a new thread for a question like this, don't wanna hijiack Malakav's thread.

okay im sorry, i started a new thread about this (and other issues) yesterday but got no answers..hence why i thought i could ask here. anyway thanks for the answer.. they're indeed causing me trouble even at 4X, movies skipping etc but to get back to malakav's answer i will add that i'm burning PS2 backups for a lil' month now.. and i don't think there's a universal method of burning... gotta get lucky have good media and still sometimes it might be the burner or the driver that's faulty.. so i wish you good luck :)

Try burning at 8x. If that fails get some 4x or 8x Verb's or TY's.
