I'm wondering if there are any programs that would allow me to check my dvd backups to see if they are good or have become coasters. I know that DVDShrink has the option to 'verify sectors' immediately after it burns it, but even when it says that the disc is good, do I sometimes get a coaster. Often, I run out of hard drive room and have to remove the ISO and/or Video_TS folders to make room BEFORE I get a chance to watch my back-up. It's especially annoying when I have lent out that dvd to someone, which as we all know doesn't always lead to a return or even an undamaged return everytime, hence the reason we back up our dvds. T

thanks

I use dvdinfopro for its PIE/PIF error scan test:
http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

You can also use nero speed test if you have nero.

If you have a lite-on drive, you can use k-probe scan.

Before considering those backups as coasters:

They need verifying:
Play them on your pc using the same dvd-rw drive that burned them.
Play them on other stand alones. The more/the better.
You don't have to play them all the way through.Just where the issues occur.

What is the exact issue that makes these coasters: No disc inserted errors or poor playback like freezing/skipping/and pixellation?

When dvd shrink gets done and says successful, then it's usually problems with stand alone players.

What burn engine you using with dvd shrink: Nero/copytodvd/or dvd decrypter?

What is the brand name and model # of your dvd-rw drive?

If you have the extra room for another hard drive, that'll give more room to save those ISO files. Pretty easy to do.

i'm downloading that now and gonna check it out.

the issues are freezing and skipping, occasionally it won't read the disc

I'm burning using SOny DRU-530A [FW 2.1g], Dvd SHrink and DVD Decrypter with TDK -R's 8x (TTG02's) and Sony +R's (Taiyo Yuden, man id YUDEN000, media type id T02). I play them on PS2 or XBOX.

Thanks

I haven't tried any of my booktyped backups in any xbox drives, but I know the ps2s can be a pain in the rear when it comes to playing dvd-r/+r/-rw/+rw.

Some of them won't recognize my dash backups, and all but 1 I have ran into will play my booktyped plus format backups. These give me No disc inserted errors on the format that they don't like.

I've been reading tons of posts of poor quality TDK media.Even though they are highly rated, there are problems everywhere in all the burn logs I look at with that MID code. The sony yudens are excellent quality media, but some stand alones still may not care for them or that plus format.
