Situation: I have a good amount of mixed cd's (legit) that I would like to d/l onto my mp3 player (2.5 gigs).

Problem: I use Windows media player 10 (pre-installed) to rip a mixed cd onto my hd, and it gives all the information and such. However, once I d/l to the mp3 player, there's a second gap in between the songs (mix). How do I get rid of those gaps?

I thought I saw thread that addressed this issue, but I've had no luck in finding it.

Any help would be appreciated.

well first I would not recommend using WMP to rip your CDs to mp3, there are other programs that do a much better job. The best out there is called EAC (exact audio copy) and use the LAME plugin for encoding to mp3. we have a guide on how to use EAC and LAME here:

About the short gap between songs, that is unfortunately a side effect of the mp3s. On portable players there's not much you can do to get around it. There are apps like foobar which can take a continuously playing mp3 album and burn it to a CD without gaps, but thats the opposite of what you want. If your player supports other formats you might try them, I know that ogg files don't have gaps. Or you can just rip your CDs to uncompressed WAV files, but the files are pretty big and will fill up your player quite quickly.

So to sum it up unfortunately you'll have to deal with the short gaps between songs on your portable player.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

First off, thanks for the reply djscoop.

Just recently, I was tinkering with the media player and found out about the "crossfading" feature. I tried it with a cd I had in the (media) library and it played fine (continuous, as it should). I then hooked up the mp3 player thinking/hoping that that would solve my problem.

Result: No. <sigh>
