I am looking into purchasing a psp. The idea of playing game backups, watching videos, listening to music, and other things make it seem interesting.

The main reason I am looking into purchasing a psp, is because of GTA:LCS. I am an addict to GTA:SA still for the pc, so I would think that it would be getting my worth out of the psp.

The problem is, I hear that GTA:LCS forces you to update your psp, so playing backup games seems to not be a possibility. Its a lose lose situation.

Currently, I'm looking at a few games.
-Bleach (JAP, i'm an anime fan.)
-Fifa
-Burnout Legends
-GTA:LCS

Is there any future possibilities for the psp's newer firmware to be modded to allow the possibilities of 1.5? Also, what was added with the higher up firmwares?

Also, the final question. If I am to buy a psp, what version would be recomended to buy? I am looking around ebay, looking at psp packages.

Because I could ramble on for hours about this Im going to cut to the chase.

If your going to buy all your Games and Movies like good boys and girls do then the PSP will give you hours of enjoyment. The thing is that yes Booting Backups seems to be comming to an end, If no solution is found, Because all the new games are forcing you to update. As far as firmware versions go, Do you want the PSP for Movies, Music, Photos and Homebrew then you definately want to get yourself a 1.50 or at least a 2.0 so you can downgrade the device. 2.01 and 2.50 Cannot be downgraded as yet and dont count ont it anytime soon.

If your going to use it for Movies, Music, Photos and Gaming(Running Original UMD's) then Anything goes because you can just update it. And its highly unlikely sony will employ the ability to run homebrew ever again. Not in their best interest.

The Best features out of the updates are as follows
2.0 and up - Web Browser
2.5 and up - LocationFree? Player

Be Advised Location Free Player requires the Location Free Base station (Not Cheap) Its basically a device designed to stream Video over WIFI or Internet, from a DVD Player, Satelite Box, or anything else with Video out on it.

The Web browser obviously requires that you have a Wireless Access point or Wireless Router installed.

Hope this has helped

Thankyou for the help. Is there any big difference between the newer and older psps besides firmware? Like, would it be a bad idea to buy an old psp on ebay to save money, compared to buying a new one? I suppose i'll be updating the firmware to the max so I can play GTA:LCS, but is there any hardware or quality differences?

I won this auction on ebay. I outbidded the person in the last 30 sec. winning the auction at $330.79, but the reserve wasn't met. The auctioneer kindly gave me a "Second Chance Offer" to Buy It Now for the price I orignally won it for. So, I got a really sick deal for a great price.

Also, the psp was originally firmware v. 1.5, so if I decide I'm satisfied with GTA, I can downgrade to v. 1.5 to take advantage of all the goodness. Also, I was told the psp is in perfect condition with no dead pixels, so i'm freaking happy.
