problems flashing sony DRU 710a to BYX5

i have been getting serious read errors lately when trying to backup dvds on my DRU 710a so i thought i would try updating to the latest firmware (BYX5). But after flashing with the new stock firmware and restarting my pc the drive is no longer visable in windows and the light on the front is flashing on and off can anyone help or have i killed the drive? i have tryed reflashing but to no avail.
