Transfer from Analog camcorder to digital

Please help, I've been trying to use Nero 6.6 to transfer from 8mm tape from my analog camcorder to digital and eventually burn them on a dvd. The problems are:

1. No audio when I'm "recording" in Nero
2. The images are all matted purple like a negative

If anyone experienced this and solved the problem, please let me know. The camcorder is fine - the output to my television for example works well. My sound card in the computer is also fine.
