I am looking for the right set up to record DVD's from programs stored in a Cable DVR unit, But I want to be able to dub old home movies from VHS-to-DVD. When I thought I had every thing sorted out, I got another opinion, from someone trying to help and want feed back on the idea. I was going to buy a Sanyo 1000 when the issue of inability to play certain media came up- solution buy better media(Verbatim Media)-problem solved. Well not quite, now I am being told I don't need a combo set up to record VHS to DVD, that I can just hook my VHS palyer to a DVD Recorder and get the same results. True or false? Any suggestions will help. I want to be able to record Digital and maybe HD programming onto DVD from my Cable system DVR/TIVO, I also want to be able to copy Old Home Movie VHS tapes to DVD as my tapes being cellulose are already degrading and I want to copy them before they are lost. What would you suggest for the best results in undertaking this project. Two seperate units VHS to DVD recorder, or a Combo Unit? I am not gaining much faith in the combo unit idea as the reviews of these units seem to be very mixed. HELP.

@techidiot..... Since you are considering transferring VHS to DVD, I suggest you go over to the proper forum which is "Video capturing from analog source". You can read for several days and then you can make up your mind as to your course of action. If you looking for quality then you will spend a couple hundred bucks to achieve your goal. The only fact you must keep foremost in your goal is you will never exceed the quality of the original VHS tape, that is unless it was a Beta tape you were copying. Beta quality was always better than VHS.... Bet of luck.... Texas Outlaw
