Is my hard drive fried?

I bought a seagate 200 gb harddrive and I used it one day and backed up all my data so I could reinstall windows xp on my other sata drives. After I did that I plugged in the seagate and turned on the computer and the system immediately shut off. I unplugged the drive and turned on the system and everything worked fine. I called tech support and they said my seagate hard drive was shorting out the power supply. I had it for ONE DAY: piece of junk. I have been browsing endless websites for solutions but nothing yet. Is it possible that the board on the back of the hard drive is fried and can be replaced with an exact match? How do I know if that is even the problem?
PLEASE HELP ANYONE!!!!

You just bought this drive? Then I wouldn't go bending over backward to solve this problem yourself. This really isn't YOUR problem. So you shouldn't be getting the short end of this stick. Someone sold you a drive that isn't working. Apparently the drive is faulty, so just take it back and ask for (or demand) a new one.

You should be able to get it replaced under mfg warranty. Check thier website for warranty/RMA info. Using the serial number, they can determine manufacture date and tell whether or not it is covered.
