.reg files open in notepad

why is this...

I need to do the error fix and some others to remove spyware and they open in notepad.

Is that if you double click it? It should ask you if you are sure you want to add the data to the registry.... But if its just opening notepad then try right clicking the .reg file then click "Merge"

when i click merge it goes into notepad when I double click it opens up in notepad.

Hmmm... That should not happen... The file assosiation may be set wrong.... It seems to be set to open with notepad, when it should be set for Registration Entries...

Goto you control panel > Folder Options > File Types > in the list look for "REG" and see what is next to it, whats it say?

yeah it says pens with notepad up there....


also this started when I had some spyware on my pc and removed now the reg files are like that.

also exe files open find it is just when I saved this file as a jpeg in order for it to run it had to be .exe

The filename is ???.exe.jpeg

I want it to just be exe when it runs seems like I can change the name of the file but not the entension.

Ok, select the REG and click change... See if their is Registry Editor is in the programes list and apply it...

it is not in the list but I can browse where can I find rery editor on my pc.

Its in C:\Windows\regedit.exe
