Ok, I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K15. It is built-in in my HP Pavilion ze2000 laptop.

Recently, I reformatted my computer, reinstalled OS, etc. After the first restart, the DVD drive was working fine. I knew this because I put in a DVD that had all the files I backed up before the reformatting. However, later on, I decided to give Windows Update a visit, which told me I had 32 critical updates. After restarting and applying these updates, later, I find that the DVD drive is not working. On Device Manager, it says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Please reply with solutions asap :). Thanks.

okay after a lot of research on google -_-.. i finally found the solution:

Follow these steps:

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

Restart your computer. After restart, cd/dvd drive should come up in My Computer. This worked for me.
