On the PSP there's the section to go to games stored on the memory stick. I am wondering the purpose of this feature, if it is that Sony is so trying to prevent piracy etc with this console?
Also is it possible to play UMD ripped games that are stored on the memory stick using this feature? That is on firmware version 2.01
Thanks in advance for the help and hope I was sorta clear on what I am asking.

It is used to run the firmware update software, although some people think that sony might release downloadable demos to be played off of the memory stick.
And no it is not possible to play UMD ripped games stored on the memory stick with any version 2.x firmware. Only version 1.0 and 1.5 at the moment.

Thats true but maybe you should wait till they crack 2.x firmware, I think it should not be long until they do.

I was thinking at least the demo disc that comes with it would have had one or two demo games on it and not the trailers. I mean a lil something, you know. One or two stages...LOL Dang!!!
I don't know why they didn't just name it something different if it's purpose is just for downloading firmware updates but then again not everything we are meant to understand in this life right?

Hmm, I personally think it is going to be quite a while before they crack 2.x firmware, because $ony has made it very hard to crack their new version. Plus version 3.0 is most likely gonna come soon, and be even harder to crack. However, the news (un-confirmed by anyone reliable) of the possibility of a mod chip coming would be awesome, because if it really exists it will allow homebrew on any firmware version!

GAMES ON MS:
Homebrew. Only on 1.00 and 1.50, not on 2.00+.
Possible future demos by Sony.
ISO loading is done with Homebrew.
I was told to change my sig so I did this.

I think eventually we will crack the 2.5 homebrew thing.
Firstly, $ONY HAS to release downloadable demos, to compete with DS.
Then, we'll extract the signed code and put it on our Homebrew apps. ZOMG!!!

Well you are not going to be able to extract signed code, because it is encryped right?
However, over at psp updates, they have recently posted news of a possible 2.5 overflow exploit! So if this is true, then we will most likely have downgraders, or some sort of homebrew software for 2.5 soon!
