Sony DVD±R Burner Problem

I have a sony vaio laptop, with a intergrated DVD±R burner, Model Number: DV-U50A.
When i try to copy things with it it starts to make a noise, a continues screechy sound, and then at 20% it says power calibration error, im using nero.
Any thoughts to the problem.

Hi there it seems that everyone is having a problem with Sony DVD burners.
I have a DRX-710UL external burner that won't see blank media.
I used the Nero CD-DVD speed tool and it finally read a Verbatim DVD+R disc but when I put in a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc no dice.
And it too when I put in the disc would make noises, but I didn't get a power calibration error.
The burner is connected to my computer by FireWire.
I checked and my fireware is updated.
