A couple of things i see, and is that the whole error log? I am not used to looking at a recode log, but it looks like a bunch of it is missing.
Your version of Nero is behind. The latest 6x vers is 6.6.0.18 and you have 6.6.0.15.
the other thing i see is it looks like you have a Roxio driver
Quote:
Existing drivers:

File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS': Ver=7.1.0.188 , size=24832 bytes, created 11/10/2004 5:30:18 PM
and those things conflict with Nero. If you have the disc that Roxio came on, you can un-install it that way. There is also a program called a zapper that removed Roxio completly, but i dont remember where i saw it. The Nero update packages are big each 35Mb or more, and you will need 1 and 2, but not #3 INCD, don't download that one. Update Nero, try to get rid of Roxio, and try again, posting burn log, only editiing out serial number.
I would tell you if your firmware is up to date, but i cant see the firmware version of your drives.
The samsung is here:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=171
and the NEC is here:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=301
If you can find Nero Info tool, run it, and post log. It will show your current firmware version.

what conflits is the "drag to disc" in roxio and "incd" in Nero so DONT run both programs JUST use Nero and incd causes other problems so if its installed delete that program only out of Nero ,heres the roixo zapper tool link

delete the program and run this

I updated the firmware on my NEC. I updated to newest versions of Nero 6.0. I zapped Roxio by downloading the zap program. I'm using Phillips DVD+R. Like I said, I burned my first movie successfully, but anything after that, unsuccessfull. I believe that maybe my dvd writer is gone bad? I say this because it does not seem to read anything, even my cd-r. What do you guys think?

According to your last log, your firmware on the samsung is
Quote:
CD-ROM: <SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616T >Version: F310
and the latest is F311 for Dell computers. So that one needs updating. Just click on the link i provided in prior post. The NEC drive appears to be up to date.
If the firmware upgrade doesn't fix it, you may have to try some other media. Phillips is not great media. Try Verbatim, Sony, Fuji, or Maxell media. Also according to the log, you aborted the process, and it said no media was present (that could be a combination of firmware and media issues going on)

Let me describe exactly what I am doing and maybe we'll get an answer:

In Nero, I try to burn the video file from hardrive on to my media. When I press the Burn button on Nero, I am prompted to input the media (Phillips DVD+R). I put the media in the dvd writer drive and I see the little light by the drive glow for a few seconds and then turn off. To me there seems to be nothing happening w the media inside the drive. Meanwhile the prompt on my screen to input a media disc is still showing and just sitting there. After a few minutes of this and changing from one disc to another, I cancel the burn; this is why you see that the process is stopped. IF ANYONE CAN TELL WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, IT WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

shaqflash,
We are down to almost nothing left to fix. However, this line here gives me a couple of ideas.
Quote:
When I press the Burn button on Nero, I am prompted to input the media (Phillips DVD+R).
Try a couple of things. #1 the media being used is not great, and we need to try some good media. A verbatim or two might do. Next, try putting the media in before you hit burn in Nero. This does a couple of things for us. It lets Nero check out the disc, and changes the burn speeds available in that dropdown box. With no media present, Nero uses Maximum as it's default setting, and it could try to burn at 16x if you have that type of media in the drive. Everything else looks good to me in your log. You even got rid of Roxio, and now have this line in your driver section, and that is a good thing:
Quote:
File 'Drivers\atapi.sys': Ver=5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158), size=95360 bytes, created 8/3/2004 9:59:42 PM (Adapter driver for rec)
That wasn't in your first log, so we have made progress. I really think it is coming down to media. A good choice for media is Sony, Verbatim, Maxell, Fuji made in japan. If you can find any of these discs, give them a try. Your burn log looks fine until we see aborted by user, and you explained that.
The only other thing i can think of is maybe you have a bad drive. I say maybe, because we have not eliminated the media as the possible problem. Don't go out and buy a new drive just yet. Buy some good media first. It will be cheaper than a new burner. Does the NEC drive read original movies ok? If it can read them, it's laser is working enough to read. I am at work, so i wont be able to reply for a while, but i will check back to see how you are doing.

Can you run Nero InfoTool from Nero Toolkit and verify that the ASPI layers are properly installed?

Attar - There are two types of ASPI showing: for Nero ASPI, it is installed; but the system ASPI shows it is NOT insalled. I am unfamiliar with what the latter means, please let me know what to do next.

MaxBurn - I'll take a look into trying different brand media. As far as putting the media in before pressing burn on Nero, it wasn't successful.

Thanks for the responses!

http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm

Is a site which has information/instructions/download of the four aspi files which are commonly used for supporting DVD devices.
The listed files may allready be installed on your system and one of the downloads checks to verify their presence and release number.

In my PC, when using NeroInfotool, it reports that the System Aspi files as:
Wnaspi32.dll
Aspi32.sys
Winaspi.dll
wowpost.exe

It reports the Nero Aspi as:
Wnaspi32.dll

I know that 'aspi' of some kind is required for DVD operation, but that is as far as my it goes..however the download package includes a backup/restore feature so that at the least you will be no worse off than you are are at present.

I have used the package to clear up anomolies between the various release versions of the 'aspi' progs, although it must be noted that I was not having the same problem you are experiencing and since at one point you mention that CD access was inoperative and I am unsure if ASPI even applies in that case.

Sorry to be long winded.Just trying to cover by butt.At least it eliminates one more area of concern.
Good luck, I'm outta here.

Some info on ASPI and why it is very important to have system ASPI.
Quote:
<11> What is ASPI and do I need it?
The term 'ASPI' is an acronym that stands for: Advanced SCSI Programming Interface. All the following terms are synonymous: ASPI layer, ASPI drivers, ASPI interface. The term 'SCSI' [scuzzy] is an acronym that stands for Small Computer Systems Interface. An ASPI layer consists of four files that 'lie between' various programs [software] and certain devices, such as CD/DVD-ROM drives and CD/DVD burners/writers [hardware]. Software programs such as CD digital audio extractors [commonly known as 'Rippers'] and CD-writing utilities such as CDRWin use/require ASPI drivers to 'communicate with' SCSI devices. Many people don't realize however, that the files contained in an ASPI layer are also used in systems that *don't* contain a SCSI adapter, or SCSI devices .. for things such as ripping CD audio and burning CD/DVDs.
ASPI DOWNLOAD http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.jsp?cat=/Pr...
that was from Bbmayo's FAQ.
The ASPI file is here at AD also:

When all else fails, it is usually something that makes you go duh?!

First, I do want to thank the above members for assisting. After doing everything above and asking DELL's tech support for assistance and nearly caving on buying a new dvd burner, the resolution was...

BOUGHT SOME CANNED AIR FOR $9 AND SPRAYED THE LIFE OUT OF THE BURNER AND MADE SURE I WAS GETTING THE TINY READER/LASER AND WOLLAH!...have successfully burned about 10 dvds so far.

AAAhhh the old dirty laser trick. At least you found it, and didn't have to replace the drive. Sometimes i forget to mention cleaning the laser on the burner. Didn't even think of it this time. Well, at least you are back to the land of burning. :) Good luck on your future burns.
