What I was trying to do is convert an official David Gilmour DVD9 to bootyped DVD+R. I method used was Clone DVD. Another - DVD-RB with HCenc. Both gave great picture quality, but the picture size on the tv sceen, when played on home DVD player was smaller than the screen. Original DVD did not have this problem.
Possible causes?
Solutions?

On the original, is it a "letterboxed" widescreen image or an anamorphic widescreen image?
Does the original play "smaller than the screen", as you describe it?
Do you have a "square" TV or a widescreen TV?
If the original is anamorphic, then change the settings in your DVD player's setup menu to output correctly to your TV Screen. If the original is letterbox, it will not fill your screen and the image will be encased with black on all four sides of the image.

Whisperer,
I have reviewed definitions of letterbox and anamorphic, but still cant quite understand how to determine if my original DVD is one or another.
TV used to play DVD is standard.
Original DVD played full screen, but both of my copies made with 2 diff. progs DID NOT play on full screen
I will try to set the player up later, but the question remains- why did identical, compressed copy of the DVD is being displayed on the TV in a different way
Thanx!

Not sure I am completely understanding you. But a backup program does not change the aspect ratio of a movie (wide screen or full screen). it only copies it exactly the same. Unless the original contains both the WS & the FS versions and you backedup the one you don't want.
You have to set your dvd player to output a widescreen or full screen image to a 4:3 "square" tv or a Widescreen TV. So I think it is not set that way now. your computer's player software just detects from the disk and adjusts the output automatically. players don't do this. you have to make a manual adjustment in player "settings".
What David Gilmore concert DVD is it? I will look up whether it is FS or WS (anamorphic or letterbox).

Whisperer,
I have the following settings on my JVC DVD player:
Screen type: 16:9 / 4:3 PS / 4:3 LB
Source type: AUTO / FILM / VIDEO
I tried a number of combinations: AUTO-16:9,4:3PS,4:3LB , FILM-16:9,4:3 , VIDEO-16:9,4:3
The only only option which had an effect on the picture was setting the Screen to 16:9.... this stretched the video vertically to the borders of television, but left the sides unchanged making the picture look too much vertically vertically.

I don't know what to tell you then. Rotten Tomatos list the R1 release as FS. Netflix lists R1 as WS. IMDb has no definative listing for the R1 version. cdcovers.cc lists PAL versions a WS. (!!!)
I guess you just get a pad and paper and list every possible combination in your player's settings and try them all. I'm outta answers. But I do know that a backup can only copy exactly what is on the original. Unless your backup software has some option you inadvertently utilized. Or there are two versions on the original and you backed up only the version that you didn't want.
