They havent hacked it yet, they just discovered another exploit. IIRC, it took around a month to create a downgrader last time.

Could someone more thoroughly explain what this exploit does? Is this hinting towards the ability to play isos off a memory stick? Or, the ability to downgrade the firmware? What is the signifigance of this "exploit." All I could see from the videos, was that he could look into his memory stick on v.2.5, showing a white screen, and nothing else. What is so special about that?
I currently own a v.2.5 psp, and i'd really appreciate a response, to know what to expect for the future of my psp. ;)

As far as I know, everything starts with an exploit. In other words its a doorway into the inner workings of the PSP allowing unlicensed code to be run ie homebrew or loaders or a downgrader for example. It's the first step in completely breaking down the 2.5 firmware.

Righto, what an exploit does:
All hacks start off as exploits that seem pointless but mean ALOT to coders.
The toc2rta TIFF exploit was pointless at start to the masses except for the programmers and look at it today: Downgraders, eboot loaders, pong...
This 'ploit will eventually turn into a downgrader.
IT IS NOTHING YET!!! IT IS ONLY SOMETHING CODERS CAN WORK WITH!!!
It is proven to work. This freezes when run, just like the original tiff 'ploit.
However, i dont really want a 2.5 downgrader. I would like a way to actually run homebrew on a 2.5. The 2.0 eboot loader was OK, but it couldnt run EVERYTHING. I want an eboot loader for 2.5, but i want a fully compatible one. Maybe emulate the way 1.5 or 1.0 runs eboots?
Or, i would like a firmware loader like MPH's or SXT's. If i wanna play GTA or LocationFree, etc i would just play it but if i wanted to play homebrew or ISOs i would load the Firmware loader, load up the 1.5 homebrew dump from the Memory Stick, and play homebrew. Then, i'd turn the PSP off and itll be back to 2.5. The FW loaders load the FW from the MS, not the memory/bios.
NOTE: I would rather run 2.5 and FWLoad 1.5 then run 1.5 then FWLoad 2.5. With SXT's loader, it is confirmed that 1.5 loads sucessfully, but 2.0+ doesn't coz it cant read flash1 (or is it flash0? ive forgotten) but since 1.5 is confirmed, then we can load 1.5 with a FWLoader on this exploit. BTW ther FWLoader DOES NOT LOAD THE FW FROM THE update eboot.pbp!!! It loads it from a FIRMWARE DUMP!!! flash0 becomes ms0:\FA on your MS and flash1 becomes ms0:\FB. You have to find a dump, or dump one yourself.
If a eboot loader or FWLOader is impossible then homebrew apps for 2.5 might work, like a ISO loader or something. But id really like a HB LOADER or FWLOADER.
I have a 1.5 PSP but i'd really like to upgrade to 2.5 if homebrew is possible. I want t3h features, even if i don't need 'em. But the Wipeout Pure browser may no longer work unless its a FWLoader, but then we'll use the official one.
I wish they'll make a UMD EMulator ISO LOADER for 2.5 with this ploit so we can all play GTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

hehehe... I would like to be able to use that browser and play 2.0+ games without all the fiddling.... ah well. sony have themselevs to thank. If only they reviewed their distribution policy they wouldnt be getting murdered in the psp game sales area due to piracy...
