hi guys,
been reading awhile, but this is my first post (yay!).
problem:
when burning .nrg files (music stuff, mainly) lately, the burn seems to work perfectly -- even says "burned successfully" or whatever -- but on the CD. . .nothing. they are reading blank. and yet, it will not let me record them again (cd-r), and also when one of them is IN nero and you hit "disc info", it shows that something is there. is there a simple reason for this? it's now happening on my new computer AND my old computer, though i've never had this problem before. i just wasted 30 cds on it! all blank. : (
i'm hoping that the info is there, there's just something simple i have to do in order to get the computer (either one) to recognize the data therein.
thoughts?
and thank you!

i think maybe you have the settings set to 'simulation' burn and not 'write' like it is supposed to be.
go to tools, drop down menu, then check your setting, see if its in 'simulation' if it is, the select 'write' and problem solved.
but yes, post a log, just edit out your serial #.

hi guys and thanks. sorry i didn't post the log; i figured perhaps someone had this exact problem, and i wouldn't clutter a thread (as if!) with long ol' log file, if not necessary. my bad.
so i'm using 6.3.1.6 (i've gotten used to it), and i don't see where there is a general tools heading, nor where i can find a place to set it in write, rather than simulation. i've been burning consistently (for years) with Nero express; however, when i do occasionally switch to Nero, as i have the last couple of days (thinking there's perhaps something wrong with the express module), it does indeed say determine maximum speed/simulation/write (check boxes) on the burn tab of the new compilation window. that's the only place i see it, can't find a general spot for setting global write/simulation. i've had it on 'write' however : )
here's the logfile (hope i don't screw this up, i've seen how mean & nasty you guys can be ; )

i saw that the last maxtor dma is "off", but that shouldn't have anything to do with it, right? that is obviously a hdd (250gb). however, the same thing is happening on BOTH of my computers, which leads me to believe there's some sort of header thing happening, or something.
just wanted you to know that i did see that : )

i'm broken hearted......
Quote: here's the logfile (hope i don't screw this up, i've seen how mean & nasty you guys can be
i did however see this...
Quote: Burn process completed successfully at 40x (6,000 KB/s)
slow it down a tad, like around 10x, i do all my audio cd's that way, never at max.
Quote: DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 7L250S0 iaStor Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
go ahead and switch to 'on' anyway.
what media did you use?
i am at work, but from memory, in your tools tab, i thinks its labeled 'options'
your burn settings are there. just double check to see if its not in 'simulation' mode.
other then that, i will forward this to creaky, he is the pro in log files...

oops! one more thing: out of 30 cds i made (coasters?), ONE of them actually worked, and loaded onto the new computer. it was burned on the old computer, though a bunch of others burned on the same computer did NOT work (meaning the same 'blank' reading was occurring on BOTH machines!).
here is the logfile for the one that DID work. . .i can't find the difference! thanks!

thank you, gear79; i was posting while you were, sorry : )
yeah, i don't see ANY 'tools' tab anywhere, at least not in this version. there's a 'configure' button (in express) and then 'preferences' in Nero, but even there, no 'tools'. and nothing that gives the option for a global write/simulation.
and also: i DID write it at 8x (or 16x). did that on ALL of them, and yet EVERY logfile says "completed at 40x". don't know why that is. believe me, i'm fearful (always) of burning at the max (which is 48x and 52x for the two machines).
thanks!

man, i swear i burned it more slowly. regardless, honestly, this had to be the only one that burned at the high speed; i consistenly burned them at 8x (or 16x, on a few); i think this may have been one i just wanted to "check real quick" so i burned it quickly. not certain. i do know that even the slow ones did not work, since almost all of them (save for maybe this one! haha) were burned more slowly.
thanks, and i will indeed turn on the dma for the maxtor. the 'off' dma on the old machine (elby dvd-rom) is off because it simply does not exist. . .no dvd player on the old machine.

yes, creaky is very knowledgeable, especially when it comes to nero's log files. thats why i sent him a PM requesting his presence to your concern. try what he says, see if it works.

no worries, i had subscribed to this thread earlier today but was stuck sorting out the heating 'til i saw gear79's PM.. hopefully the firmware will sort out the problem and dunno whether you need yto uninstall that ElbyVCD virtual drive thingy, i've come across that before but can't remember without googling.
i'm starting to ease off the Nero logs a bit round here as they never stop flooding in!, but still subscribe to all threads in the Nero forum so i can still see what's going on..and jump in where necessary

okay, you guys will be wondering what the heck on this one. even though i did the 'dma fixes', that part of the new logfiles hasn't changed. however, it is showing the newer version of Nero, and i also updated the firmware on the old machine. here are the logfiles. . .both of them created CDs that are blank (read blank in both machines), and even after it verified both burn processes (earlier it would not even give me the option to verify, but now it did. . .assuming that was a fix in the newer version of Nero express). i am totally at a loss. why on earth would they read blank?? the new computer is VERY new. i use it for music ONLY. the old machine is mostly for music, plus a bit of online stuff (like this!). this is getting ridiculous, i have a TON of great sounds that i'm trying to get into the new machine, all of them in .nrg format, and i can't burn a single one. DRAG!!

sorry to be such a pain in the butt, you guys. i'm so frustrated! i have a "personal" IT guy, and he is really stumped as well. there must be some simple explanation, right? i've never had this problem before; and it's weird that this would happen on BOTH machines. they are rarely linked, except when i want to send stuff over from one to the other (via crossover ethernet). strange strange strange.
