I have just started downloading from eMule but the downloads are painfully slow around 2kbs when its not waiting. Heres what I currently have. Before I get into trouble I want you to know I printed out 19 pages from eMule thread today and also read other threads until I got really confused. I have been using 2 other DL servers and they run at around 25+kbs.

Information needed before proceeding;
* Your computer's ip address
* the port number(s) you wish to open
Ok, go into Internet Explorer or whatever browser your use.
In the address bar, enter the address 192.168.0.1 then press enter.
You might be asked for a username and password - the default Username is "admin" without the speech amrks and the password is blank. If you are denied access, then the password has most likely been previously set by another user.
If you cannot retrieve this password and wish to continue, you can always physically reset the router via the a tiny pinhole labelled reset - I believe you unplug power from the router, press and hold the button (you need to use a pen tip or paperclip to press the button) for 10 sec, let go, plugin the power and it should've reset.
(please look up D-Link for the exact instructions)
Ok, once you have gained access to the address 192.168.0.1 (which BTW is the address for your router if you haven't figured it out), click on the Advanced Tab. You should see a list of tabs along the side. CLick on the one that says "Virtual Server".
These are the settings you need to set.
1. Enabled (a radio button)
2. Name (call it eMule or whatever you want)
3. Private IP - put in the ip address of the computer with eMule on it.
4. Protocol Type - select both - if you have an odler router, you might not see this option.
5. Public Port and Private Port - enter the port number you wish to forward in both fields. As a sidenote, you can enter a "range", e.g. 6881-6891. Either way, just make sure you enter the same number(s) in both fields.
6.Schedule - always
7. CLick apply. The router may need to restart - if you see the restart ico, click it.
Hoperfully that should open the required ports.

A dumb question, after I choose the program whose port I want to open will that apply to each comp connected to router. Private Ip does that cover both connected comps?. Dumb eh?

Ok, you entered everything correctly except for an IP address - the empty field after "192.168.0."
To find your ip address, do the following;
1. Press the Windows "Start" button in the bottom left corner of your screen
2. Click on "Run"
3. Type in "cmd" (without the speech marks) and press enter
4. A black window should pop-up.
5. At the bottom of the black screen is a command prompt, here, type
"ipconfig /all" (without the speech marks)
6. A lot of text should appear, you're looking for the line that says
"IP Address: " - the number should start with 192.168.0.
*NOTE: there will be at least two numbers starting with 192.168.0;
a. The router's ip address = 192.168.0.1
b. Your ip address = 192.168.0.XXX (You are looking for
this number)
7. Once you locate this number, simply put into the D-Link configuration page with all the other requried details, and your set!

OK sorry I managed to find it, now do I just type that in and keep entering emule port #s I have typed in ip#, then emule no 4662, apply, 4711 apply, 4672 apply now I should be ok, is that all I need to do. I just did a port test, reply emule ok, UDP failed any idea what UDP is.
OK a little bit of further reading says a firewall may be blocking UDP any clues on how to get around this, please bare with me, we're almost there. Cheers

Are you using Windows Firewall or any other Firewalls?(e.g. Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm)
If you are, you can do one of two things;
1. Disable all firewalls exisitng on your computer - it should work.
2. Add "exceptions" - that is, allowing certain traffic to pass through, which is similiar to port forwarding.

Make sure that for each entry in the router, that Both has been set, it could be that for one or more, tcp has only been selected.

Am i correct in assuming you are saying obtain Port# for Kad Network and include this like I did for eMule, if this is so where do I get the correct # This is what I used for eMule, what would I use for KAD
Private port, public port
sorry about the pictures but it helps me understand.

I don't personally use eMule - bittorrent is much better IMO,
I did a google search on teh default ports used by eMule, which are;
4662 4672 4711
There are other ports, but the officila eMule site says the above three are the only ones that need forwarding. There is also a fourth port - random port - it seems unlikely that it is critical. If you wish to forward it, you have to give it a number instead of letting it choose randomly (the site says you can do this by changing the value in the preferences.ini - im assuming in the eMule directory).
Anyway, for each of the above, some use tcp or udp. So you can port forward one of two ways;
(for both, make sure Both is set for "Protocol Type".
1. Make a single entry for port forwarding - in the port fields put in 4662-4711. This should your only entry for eMule - it opens all ports starting from 4662 to 4711 (inclusive). This might make it easier, however, opens unnecesarry ports. I don't see this to be much of problem.
2. Make 3 single entries, one for each port.
