sony dvd/cdr burner not working

hey guys whats up?? hey i have a problem. i installed a dvd burner on my friends dell comp. did all it asked for. flat cable connected, power, and theose darn pics. ok i know that the cdr burner it came with the pin was on master, so on the dvd burner i put the pin on slave. man its just nmot working ...!!!! changed it so many times... the darn pin. darn properties says device working properly but how can it be working properly if the dam thing is not reading the disc .. darn burner just ejects and stay open... man i need help. i would apreciate anyone who can help.. thanks guys yall the best!!!

what is the other drive on the same cable & what is the jumper setting??

um...well the other drive is the one it came with.. cdrom dvd rom. and the jumper setting was on master. and i have set the dvd burner on slave .. on properties it says that the device working properly .. but it really isnt. darn thing just ejects and when i put in a cd to read ..not even that little light turns on.. and it just ejects....

disconnect the cdrom so only dvd burner now set as master is connected to see if works or not.
