Witch one is a better hook-up S-vidio or component? I have a DVD player that has both and want to chose the best possible hook-up. Thanks

Also: "Progressive Scan" cannot be achieved through S-Video, only component video and HDMI/DVI can.

Speaking of Progressive scan is this better than component? And is 1080i better than 540p? I assume that 1080i is interlaced and 540p is Progressive?

Component is a type of connection. A progressive scan signal can be passed through component cables(480p, 576p and 720p) I'm not sure, but I think component cables don't have the bandwidth for a 1080p signal though. For this you'll need a DVI or HDMI cable. Component cables can be used for a 1080i or any signal below that interlaced or progressive. If your tv and equipment have component capabilities, you should use them regardles of whether your equipment is capable of progressive scan or not. Component is much better than s-video. If you have a DVI or HDMI option, you should also take advantage of those connections, too.

Comparing interlaced scanning to Progressive scanning is like camparing apples to oranges. Progressive scan is better for fast motion but by using interlacing it is possible to up the total resolution without sacraficing bandwith.

Some people think 720p at 60 Frames Per-Secound (fps) is better than 1080i (@ 30 fps). I think 1080i looks better than 720p on a 1080p tv than 720p does.

Yes, 1080i (@ 30 fps) is much better than 540p (@ 60 fps) and 1080i has twice the resoluiton. But 480p (@ 60 fps) is better than 480i (@ 30 fps) (ergo 540p is better than 540i).
