Is there any way to find out what games require what firmware version?

There might be a list out there somewhere, but I just installed the new version of fastloader, now called UMD emulator v0.8c. It'll play ISOs of course, but it also lets me play Battlefront 2 (requires firmware 2.0) FROM THE UMD without actually upgrading! easier just to do that.

I tried using Fast loader, but everytime I select an ISO it freezes. I tried Dev Hook and can get Marvel Nemesis to play fine, but X Men Legends won't play.

Hmmm, my X-Men Legends can play fine with my UMD Emulator .8C.

It's easier to make a list the ones that have to 2.0 to run. GTA: Liberty City, Socom and The Hustle and possibly Lord of the Rings are the only ones. I heard LOR runs on 1.5 but crashes on level 2. Then again. I heard it can get past that.
