Got a problem with lipsync & reverbation.

I've created DVD's from (Australian) digital TV recordings previously but for one local show I am getting lip sync problems, and worse, the sound becomes full of echo or reverbation.

I am using TMPGEnc Xpress toolsets. A discussion I read on TMPGenc suggested the cause for lip sync and reverbation is that the source video and audio are not at the nominal rates. Also while it is fairly common to sync to the audio, TMPGEnc changes the frame rate to be exactly 25 fps and the audio then drifts from this. The suggested solution was to lengthen or shorten the audio to match the video.

A recomended tool to fix this was SOX but it is a difficult to use command line only tool. I have a day job so I am not on this full time and want something easier.

Does anybody have any suggestions of tools to fix lipsync & reverbation?

Does anybody have alternate explanations of and fixes for lipsync & reverbation

I'm sorry I'm not very familier w/ some of the tools you use so I won't be able to help you w/ everything, just what I know. Most umatching audio and things of that effect can usually be traced back to too fast a burning speed and bad media.

What's the format of the original recording (e.g. AVI, mpeg)?

Thanks guys. It's a PAL 16:9 broadcast to DVBT standards. I don't know what GOP it has but it is a transport stream with 720x576 mpg video and 48khz mpg audio.

I have had lipsync/reverbation with 2 out of 10 episodes recorded. When converted to DVD stnds and burnt to a disc, there is only a problem with the 2 episodes but the others were fine.

GlueEater, could you expand a bit please on how a bad burn can cause these problems???

I don't think it is my prob - I get good burns mostly and always check them with DVDInfopro. I am pretty sure it had the problem after conversion on disk too. I'll reconvert from the orig and check that

If it's an mpeg, you may try convert to dvd compliant format with another program (e.g. VSO, DVDSanta) to see if things are better.

Good luck!

I'll give that a try!

I've just read that some software maintains the audio as the authoritative timeline and "floats" the video frame rate away from 25 fps to adjust to the audio. This was said to keep lipsync when actual fps and audio rates differ from standards.

Whereas TMPGEnc corrects the video frame rate to 25 fps precisely whether it was that or not in practice and the audio can get out of sync.

Don't know enough yet to evaluate the truth of this.

Any thoughts?
