what is the make & model# of the motherboard?? does windows see the hd as 12gig or just when formatting? what windows are you using. look at the top of the hd to see what is written there as in 12gig or 40gig.

John1690 you are confused :^)
You don't need a BIOS update - you need to properly setup the BIOS you have. Have you been using that thing for 3 years with 12GB?
The HD will be recognised as what it is, but who cares what Windows sees when setting BIOS... There doesn't need to be Windows to setup BIOS.
Once BIOS set properly, if Windows sees 12.1GB then there is a 12.1GB partition installed.
If other HDs come up as 12.1GB then you have a BIOS setup problem.
Yes - what is the make & model# of the motherboard??
You don't get BIOS update flashes from AMI, but from your mobo company ie. Asus.
Let us know,

did you check the bios setup to see what it registers in the bios as opposed to what it registers in windows?you have to see how it registers in your bios before you assume its the bios that is the problem.

is an ecs m810lr motherboard but more than likely a pcchips board. look on the board for a rev# as could be in near 1 of the 2 back corners or in the center of motherboard near the pci slots. need the rev# as various versions of m810 board.

off the list morph linked.
MPD3130AT 16,383 16 63 8.45 GB 25,431,840 13.0 GB. would have to be this MPG3409AT 16,383 16 63 8.45 GB 80,063,424 40.9 GB or this MPG3409AH-E 16,383 16 63 8.45 GB 80,063,424 40.9 GB to have 40gig. so are you certain it was supposed to be a 40gig & if so is it on the build list/receipt?

No, it's the fact that you don't have a 40gig HDD, (Capacity: 13.02 GB,) based on your Product ID#.

the hd id# states that you have a 13gig hd not a 40gig. take the hd out & try in another computer to see what it's bios sees but don't let it post.

if the bios registers it as a 40gig and by chance it might be a 40gig then your motherboard recognizes it and can handle it. why you need a bios upgrade i dont know.
what version of windows are you using?
is the hd formatted to fat,fat32,or ntfs?
