to play gta i need to upgrade and then to load iso's i need to downgrade. i have heard that upgrading and downgrading several times can mess up ur psp or have long term effects on it.

if so what r the effects and problems that u could get.

I don't think anyone's sure yet. This is a relatively new situation, so there has not been sufficient time to see what the long term effects of changing the firmware a bunch of times are.

People have said that the flash wasn't designed for more than a few rewrites, but IMNSHO that's all just speculation and rumor.

Think about it like this. You're pretty much the worlds most famous electronics company and you've just put out what you hope to be the biggest thing in gaming since Pong. You want it to be able to last the test of time, and that includes continually evolving its software to keep up with advances in games, video, music, WiFi, web browsing, and everything else that might be cool to do on a mobile device. Do you design the system to handle only a scant few updates, or do you make sure its flash memory can take whatever you project for future development and more? At the very least, nobody releases a web browser and thinks 'golly, this is as good as it gets, we'll NEVER need to patch this work of art' Well, nobody but MS.

That's a good way to look at it. I figure it would probably take a good bit to damage the flash, but honestly no one knows. A year from now we'll all have a better idea.

yeah that is a good point but the psp was meant for upgrading versions not downgrading.

Is there really a difference though? Either way you're writing firmware to the flash. Whether you're going up or donw inversions really shouldn't make a difference. Only the number of times you write to teh flash should matter.

You're right, Stan, the chips don't know the difference between up or down, it's all just a write ,or re-write in this case. what's being written doesn't mean a thing.

Well.. regarding GTA that was the only reason why I bought the system, I know a lot of money for just one game, I didn't even know about the iso's and emulators and all of that up until I was half way through the game.. luckily I had just updated to 2.0 so I'll finish the game, downgrade to 1.5 and enjoy the emulators and homebrew apps until another GTA game comes along..

If If what you're about so say is not as beautiful as silence itself... Stay quiet
